GUJRAT: An official team of the Federal Investigation Agency (Gujrat) on Friday raided the Mandi Bahauddin passport office after complaints of corruption and resurgence of agent mafia.
It is learnt the raiding party detained 11 suspeets, most of them agents, and some staff members.
However, a senior FIA official told Dawn that none of the officials of Mandi Bahauddin passport office was among the detained people as initial investigation from the detained suspects was underway.
The FIA team was headed by the SHO of Gujrat FIA police station inspector Hafiz Ijaz.Sources in the FIA said that around 11 people were brought to the office after which checking of their cell phones for more evidence was being done whereas receipts and tokens of passport office were also found from the suspects.
They said following a thorough investigation into the matter, a case would also be lodged against those extorting money from applicants.
Some reports said the incharge of Mandi Bahauddin passport office was also among the detained but the FIA officials declined to confirm the reports.
The FIA Gujrat circle officials said that once the case was lodged, the identities of the arrested suspects would be known.
