LAKKI MARWAT: The local administration launched an anti-encroachment drive in Lakki city on Monday and removed illegal structures in parts of the urban locality.
The operation was launched on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Syed Zafar Ali Shah that was supervised by Assistant Commissioner Qayum Nawaz, chief municipal officer Asmatullah Khan and tehsildar Sanaullah Khan.
The employees of municipal committee and revenue department with the help of heavy machinery razed shops and business outlets, built on the government land in Michen locality.
The busy Begukhel Road was also cleared of all sorts of encroachments. An official of local administration said that removal of encroachments would ease traffic on the roads linking rural localities.
He said that the administration would continue to take action against encroachments in urban and rural localities of the district in future.
The official said that the people involved in constructing illegal structures on government land would face stern action.
BOOKS: Police seized a large quantity of free textbooks from a godown in Lakki city on Monday.
`On information a police party raided a godown in Michenkhel locality and recovered free textbooks labelled as `Not for Sale` from the place,` said a police official.
He said that police also arrested a man identified as Waheed, who had purchased the books. He said the seized textbooks meant for the students of grade one to grade five.
He said that involvement of officials of education department and teachers in the practice could not be ruled out.
He said that police would expand the sphere of investigation on revelations made by the arrested man.
The official said that investigations were underway after registration of a case in Lakki Marwat police station.
