Four gangs of robbers busted

ISLAMABAD: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the capital police claimed to have busted four gangs of robbers and recovered two vehicles, three bikes, fake currency notes and weapons from their possession.

The police said they had received complaints regarding snatching of valuables and cash from citizens and purchase of mobile phones using fake currency notes.

In response, separate teams of the SIU started investigations to trace those involved in such incidents and later identified the four groups which led to the arrest of 10 people affiliated with them.

The teams also recovered five vehicles, including three motorcycles, fake currency notes worth Rs30,000, cash Rs80,000 and two 30-bore pistols from their possession.

Two of the arrested people, including an Afghan national, during the interrogation confessed to murdering a citizen in the Sabzi Mandi police area during a robbery.

The members of another gang three Afghan nationals told the police thatthey used to rob passengers. The police recovered a 30-bore pistol from the accused who confessed to committing several robberies in Tarnol and Taxila.

Another gang, consisting of two other Afghan nationals, was found involved in robberies in different areas.

They used to rob people and then fled in their motorbikes. The police recovered a 30-bore pistol and two motorbikes from their possession.

A three-member gang, including a woman, was also busted for giving fake currency notes to those selling mobile phones online.

The accused used to take the sellers to the automated teller machine (ATM) of any bank and pretended to have withdrawn cash from the ATM.

They then handed them fake currency notes and took away costly mobile phones.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Chaudhry Mohammad Younus, who was wanted by the Industrial Area police in a fraud case.
