Dil dharaknay ka sabab yad aya

LAHORE: It was an awesome music evening at the Punjab Café of the Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (PILAC) on Tuesday.
The evening was a tribute to the late film and ghazal singer, Pervez Mehdi, on his 10th death anniversary arranged by his student Tahir Pervez Mehdi in collaboration with PILAC.
Three famed and one amateur singers lent their voices to the songs sung by Pervez Mehdi. There was playback singer Afshan, another film singer Samina Malik, an amateur voice Shaheen and PervezMehdi`s student, Tahir Pervez Mehdi.
The audience fully enjoyed Punjabi melodies such as `Gorye Mein Jana Perdais` and `Mein Pagal Mera Dil Vi Pagal` sung by Tahir Pervez. This followed powerful Punjabi song `Jan Kad laie aa Baiemana Jan Wali GalKar Kay` by Afshan.
Samina Malik also entertained the audience with famous Punjabi songs such as `Dil Da Jani` and `Pheeki Paie Gaie Aye Tarayan di Lo`. She also sang Nasir Kazmi`s ghazal `Dil Dharaknay Ka Sabab Yad Aya`.
Shaheen also sang verywell. The singing was supported with live orchestra such as tabla, harmonium, and electric music system.
Tahir Pervez thanked the audience for their participation in the tribute evening.
He also thanked PILAC for providing him space and said that in coming years he would observe the death anniversary of his teacher in a big way.
Khagan Haider Ghazi, an official of PILAC, said Pervez Mehdi was born into a family of musicians in 1947. He learnt music initially from his father Bashir Hussain and was later trained by Mehdi Hassan, who also renamed him Pervez Mehdi. He learnt Sitar from Ahmed Qureshi.
