Funding, non-funding

2016-08-26
APROPOS the article `Waking up af ter a tragedy` (Augl7). The writer rightly observes that steps like the institution of a new supra committee to monitor the National Action Plan (NAP) headed by Lt-Gen (r) Nasser Janjua and raising 29 new wings of the civil armed forces for the F C/ Rangers are cosmetic ones and will not achieve desired results unless more critical reforms are carried out.

We need to bolster our intelligence set-up, monitor inflows to various seminaries, promote and inculcate a spirit of tolerance and non-violence in the educational curriculum, and continue the combing measures in the af fected areas.

The security challenges confronting the state are immense.

Abbas R. Siddiqi Lahore (2) THE Army Chief has said there has been no progress on the National Action Plan and, hence, it has suf fered greatly.

The tragedy is that this was realised af ter the Quetta massacre. The prime minister held the first regular meeting on NAP af ter this tragedy.

The question is who is going to give a wake-up call to our rulers, or do we still need more tragedies to happen? It has also been said that the required funds were not provided for NAP. If funding to the terrorists is a crime, not funding NAP is a greater crime.
