Students protest water shortage

TIMERGARA: A large number of students from government degree college Khanpur in Adenzai on Friday observed class boycott and demonstrated outside the Chakdara Press Club against the varsity management and Pesco authorities for failing to ensure power connection to the college tube-well despite its construction four years ago.

The protesting students marched from the college to the press club, covering a distance of 10 kilometres.

They chanted slogans againstthe Pescoand public health engineering authorities. The students said a water supply scheme was completed for the college four years ago but the Pesco failed to provide electricity connection to run it.

They said hundreds of students had been facing water shortage at the college.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner, Adenzai, Shah Jamil Khan, police and Pesco officialsheld talks with the leaders of protesting students and promised that the college tube-well would be provided power connection until next Monday.

After the assurance, the students dispersed peacefully.Correspondent
