RMC told to clear roads, bazaars of encroachments

R A W A L P I N D I : Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Friday asked the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to clear all roads and bazaars in the garrison city from encroachments like it did in Bara Bazaar and Raja Bazaar.
He said traders should play their role in helping the RMC clear footpaths from stallholders. He stated this during a surprise visit to the RMC.
He said notices should be issued to shopkeepers wheretherewereencroachments asking them to remove them in three days.
He said that the operation will continue until the encroachments were removed.
He directed the RMC to speed up the ongoing antiencroachment operation.
He further said that the staff of the RMC had performed well in the antiencroachment operation.
He also announced to distribute shields among the staff for their good performance in the anti-encroachment operation.
The commissioner said action should be taken against shopkeepers whose electricity connection had been given to vendors involved in encroachment.
Fines, FIRs and licence cancellation should be used against such shopkeepers.
He said that the most burning issue of Rawalpindi was encroachment which had affected all sectors of life. Practical steps are being taken to eliminate encroachment. He claimed that Murree Road will be made a model road soon and no one will be allowed to set up illegal stalls there.
