Official website shows wrong data on polio

2014-09-26
ISLAMABAD: The health department has failed to keep its website updated which still shows 119 polio cases as against 171 which have been reported in the country so far.

The official website (www.endpolio.com.pk), jointly run by Unicef and the health department, is used by different departments, national and international non-governmental organisations and people to get data on polio.

The website is not showing the correct number of polio cases which is not only embarrassing for the country but can cause blunders, an official of Unicef said on condition of anonymity. He said the contract of the person who was responsible for updating the website had expired a month ago and since then nobody had been appointed to look after the job.

`We are in touch with the government and hopefully the problem will be resolved within a few days,` he said.

Technical Head of the PM`s Polio Cell Dr Altaf Bosan, while talking to Dawn, confirmed that the website could not be updated because the post had been lying vacant for almost a month.

`I will look into the matter and the issue will be resolved within a few days,` he said. A Reporter
