KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead and a police constable wounded in an encounter in Orangi Town on Monday, police said.

The Pakistan Bazaar police said the encounter took place between the police and robbers near Rehmat Chowk when two muggers were trying to escape after snatching a mobile phone in Chishti Nagar.

They said suspect Farhan Aslam was arrested in wounded condition. Constable Mubin Baloch also suffered a bullet wound in the exchange of gunfire.

The wounded suspect was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.

The police recovered one pistol, a snatched mobile phone and one motorbike from him.
