Eight districts to choose 540 UCs in first phase of LG elections

KAR ACHI: In the first phase of local government elections to be held on Oct 31 in eight districts of Sukkur and Larkana divisions, polling will be held for 540 union councils.

Direct elections will be held on 3,861 seats, including that of 472 chairmen and 472 vice chairmen, while election for reserved seats, 944 of women, 462 peasants, 462 youth and 462 non-Muslims, will be indirect, to be conducted later by elected union councils, says a report released by the Election Commission of Pakist an.

The total number of polling stations is 4,031.

Of them, over 2,610 are declared as sensitive.There will be 103 returning officers and 151 assistant returning officers, 4,013 presiding officers and 21,553 assistant presiding officers and polling officers 11,710 while the number of voters is 4,617,024.

The district-wise breakup of the seats is as follows: Sukkur: There are 37 UCs with equal number of chairmen and vice chairmen, 148 general members with four members in each council and 37 members in district council, 74 women, 37 peasants/labourers, 37 youth and 37 nonMuslim members.

There are 26 union committees with equal number of chairmen, vice chairmen, 104 general members, 52 women, 26 peasant/labourer, 26 youth and 26 non-Muslim members.

There are four town committees with 30 members and one municipal committee with 10 members.

Ghotki: There are 64 UCs with 64 chairmen, 64 vice chairmen, 256 general members, 64 district council members, 128 women, 64 peas-ants/labourer, 64 youth and 64 non-Muslim members.

There are four town committees with 36 members and two municipal committees with 27 members.

Khairpur: There are 86 UCs, 86 chairmen, 86 vice chairmen, 344 general members, 86 district council members, 172 women, 86 peasants/labourers, 86 youth and 86 non-Muslim members.

There are 20 town committees with 156 members and three municipal committees with 49 members.

Larkana: There are 47 UCs, 47 chairmen, 47 vice chairmen, 188 general members, 47 district council members, 94 women, 47 peasants/ labourers, 47 youth and 47 non-Muslim members.

There are 20 union committees, 20 chairmen, 20 vice chairmen, 80 general members, 40 women, 20 peasants/labourers, 20 youth and 20 non-Muslim members.

There are four town committees with 29members and two municipal committees with 17 members.

Qambar-Shahdakot: There are 52 UCs, 52 chairmen, 52 vice chairmen, 208 general members, 52 district council members, 104 women, 52 peasants/labourers, 52 youths, 52 non-Muslim members.

There are seven town committees with 46 members and two municipal committees with 28 members.

Jacobabad: There are 44 Ucs, 44 chairmen, 44 vice chairmen, 176 general members, 88 woman, 44 peasants/labourers, 44 youth and 44 non-Muslim members.

There are three town committees with 16 members and two municipal committees with 41members.

Kashmore: There are 41 UCs, 41 chairmen, 41 vice chairmen, 164 general members and 41 district council members, 82 woman, 41 peasants/labourers, 41 youth, and 41 non-Muslim members.

There are six town committees with 40 mem-bers and only one municipal committee with 16 members.

Shikarpur: There are 55 UCs, 55 chairmen, 55 vice chairmen, 220 general members, 55 district council members, 110 woman, 55 peasants/labourers, 55 youth, 55 non-Muslim members.

There are six town committees with 32 members and only one municipal committee with 30 members.

Polling stations to be manned by police only Sindh government has decided that polling stations will be manned by police personnel only and Army and Rangers jawans will be on standby near sensitive and extremely sensitive areas to assist police, according to sources.

The sources said that over 2,000 personnel of Rangers and 100 Army jawans would be put on standby and over 31,000 police personnel would perform duties inside and outside polling stations.
