THIS is with reference to a letter `Sindh police ads` (Oct 20). The letter writer has criticised the Sindh police ad which showed the photographs of missing children and seeking public support in tracing these children. The writer says: `what on earth are our authorities doing? Sindh Police should not ridicule society and torment parents of the missing children.
We respect the sentiments of society and many a times in various cities have traced children who left their homes because of minor domestic issues. In some cases due to technical limitations we were impelled to adopt these outdated procedures. The police desperately need modern systems to come up to the expectations of parents for locating their missing children and for overcoming street crime. Many developing countries have responded to society by strengthening their police force with modern systems in order to respond to ever-increasing challenges but unfortunately, we are still lagging behind.
