PESHAWAR: Farmers belonging to Regi village here held a protest demonstration on Wednesday against the orders to vacate their houses, and said they would do so if they were paid proper compensation.
Holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for compensation, the protesters were shouting slogans against some local influential people and demanded action against them.
Talking to media persons the farmers said their families had been settled in Regi area for decades. `We have been asked to vacate the area at the earliest and without payment of any compensation,` Amir Mohammad, a farmer, said and added owners of the agriculture land had given the property to the Defence Housing Authority for construction of a township.
He said farmers had constructed houses at a huge cost, but now they were forced to leave the area without any compensation.
He said two local landowners had already sold out their vast piece of land to DHA, but they didn`t like the farmers to get compensation. Bureau Report
