Ismail Tara laid to rest

KARACHI: Renowned comedian Ismail Tara, who died on Thursday evening, was laid to rest in the Hasan Square graveyard after Friday prayers.

His namaz-i-janaza was held at Pahari Wali Masjid, Shaheed-i-Millat Road.

A decent number of eminent citizens belonging to the fields of culture and politics attended the funeral. They included: Arts Council president Ahmed Shah, actors Shehzad Raza, Shakil Siddiqui, Nazr Husain, Shehroz Sabzwari, Aftab Alam, TV producer Iqbal Latif and Pakistan Peoples Party’s Saeed Ghani.

Mr Tara’s soyem will be held on Saturday (today) between Maghrib and Isha prayers at Pahari Wali Masjid, Shaheed-i-Millat Road.

He was born in November 1949 and started working in stage plays in 1964 when he was in his early teens. He rose to fame through Fifty-Fifty, a comedy show which ran from 1979 to 1981. After establishing himself on the small screen, Ismail Tara tried his luck on the big one and soon made a mark there too.
