Arrest of seminary students condemned

2014-12-26
PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl has condemned raids and arrest of students of seminaries in the aftermath of militant attack on the Army Public School, Peshawar, and demanded across the board action against lawbreakers.

Speaking at a press conference after chairing JUI-F executive council here on Thursday, party’s provincial chief Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan said that despite high security and deployment of soldiers the militants killed 150 students and teachers in the school which was a matter of great concern for the nation. He said that the executive council endorsed establishment of military courts in the country, but raids and harassment of students of seminaries in the aftermath of attack on the school would not be tolerated.

He said that JUI-F supported decisions of the parliamentary parties, including military courts, but action should be across the board. He said that conference on ‘peace and madaris’ would be organised in Peshawar on January 15 under the auspices of Madaris Board. Ulema and scholars of different school of thoughts would be invited to the conference.—Bureau Report
