Seven cops booked for killing biker at picket

GUJRANWALA: A station house officer and six other police personnel were booked on Thursday for allegedly killing a motorcyclist at a picket.

On Wednesday, Awais and his cousin Saboor of Khiali locality were on their way by a motorcycle.

A police team signalled them to stop at a picket and fired on them when they accelerated the two-wheeler.

The injured were admitted to local DHQ hospital where Awais succumbed to his wounds while Saboor was shifted to Mayo Hospital, L ahore, in a critical condition.

Later, policemen deployed at the picket told their seniors that some robbers attempted to loot Awais and his cousin and opened fire on resistance.

The family of the deceased rejected police version and blocked traffic after placing the body on the road.

After receipt of information, CPO Waqas Nazir, city SP Tahir Maqsood Cheena, Rana Ghulam Sarwer, MPA Nawaz Chohan and Babu Asim Anees reached there and talked to the protesters.

The CPO got a case reg-istered against Khiali SHO Inspector Malik Amir and six other officials and assured the victim`s family that they would be provided with justice.

FINED: Naushera Virkan Assistant Commissioner Zaigham Nawaz Chaudhry imposed on Thursday fine totalling Rs100,000 on filling station owners and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dealers for overcharging.

He checked Husnain filling station on Hafizabad Road and fined Rs60,000 for overcharging. He also clampedafine ofRs40,000 on LPG dealers for selling gas at rates ranging from Rs180 to Rs200 per kg.

He asked the filling station owners and LPG dealers to avoid overcharging otherwise their units would be sealed.

COUPLE KILLED: A man killed his sister and her husband for contracting love marriage here on Thursday at Mari Kot Naushera Virkan.

Reports said Zafar contracted court marriage with his cousin (S) of the same village. Girl`s brother Faisal shot the couple dead with the help of his relative Feroze and escaped.

Police have registered a case and shifted the bodies to DHQ hospital for autopsy.
