RECENTLY I went to Shaheed-i-Millat Road near Medicare Hospital. When I parked my car there, a person came and claimed it was charged parking area of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
He demanded Rs50 as parking charges.
I asked him why he was charging Rs50, while in all KMC parking areas, the fee was Rs20. He also produced an authority letter in which three important things were missing KMC office phone numbers, charged parking hours, and parking fee amount.
This person was also not wearing any identity card which could prove he was authorised to collect charged parking fee.
Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has taken strict action against encroachments. I wonder when he will take against thisparking mafia which has been doing this for the last so many years.
I have seen complaints in newspapers and social media regarding the parking fees but no process has been devised for this mechanism.
I recommend launching a KMC WhatsApp query number from where anyone can get information.
