I AM a newly-recruited junior elementary schoolteacher(JEST)in the Sindh Education and Literacy Department, serving in far-flung areas of kachho in Johi for about four months. However, my salary is yet to be released. And the same is the case with my counterparts.
I have been appointed to a school some 60km from my home. Just the cost of commute in these days of high fuel prices is stupendous. I am happy with my job, but a salary paid on time would be wonderful.
We youngsters have the strength, energy and potential to reach inaccessible communities in far-flung areas, but financial woes are stumbling blocks over which we have no control.
The relevant of ficials have done nothing for the release of our salaries. A joining database of newly inducted teachers is to be signed by district of ficials, regional director and secretary of education before the matter reaches the office of the provincial accountant-general.
One wonders why such a database could not be signed by district officials in four months, leave alone regional of ficials and provincialofñcials andotherinterdepartmental procedures. By the lool(s of it, the teachers will have to wait a few more months to have their salaries so that they may pay off all the loans they have taken so far to keep themselves functional.
Maybe the provincial chief minister could find some time to look into the matter.
It might be a case of hoping against hope, but what other options do we have? None.
