Gang targeting bank customers, BISP points arrested

GUJRANWALA: A series of robberies targeting people who withdrew cash from banks and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) cash points in the City police area of Wazirabad has ended with the arrest of two suspects.

According to reports, the criminals followed their targets after they withdrew money and then held them at gunpoint. In some instances, when the people resisted, the robbers fired shots, leaving several seriously injured. These incidents created widespread fear and panic in the community.

City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ayaz Saleem said when he was alerted about these incidents he formed a special team to investigate the crimes. The team, led bySadar SP Shahid Nawaz Warraich and supervised by ASP Wazirabad Hassan Bilal, included key personnel from the City Police and the CIA.

Through a combination of professional expertise, CCTV footage analysis and human intelligence, the police tracked down and arrested two suspects, identified as Almas and Abid. During the operation, officers recovered Rs3.595 million in cash, a motorcycle, a mobile phone and illegal weapons.

In their confession, the suspects revealed their method of operation: they would either enter banks to monitor potential victims or wait outside BISP cash points on motorcycles, then rob the individuals at gunpoint and flee the scene.

CPO Muhammad Ayaz Saleem praised the action of the police team.
