GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Member Mohammad Ali Sheikh died here on Sunday due to cardiac arrest. He was 48.

The deceased was also parliamentary leader of Islami Tehreek in GilgitBaltistan Legislative Assembly. He left behind two sons, a daughter and a widow to mourn his death.

He was shifted to district headquarters hospital in Gilgit after he com-plained about pain in chest. He died of cardiac arrest in the hospital.

His funeral prayers were offered at Markazi Jamia Imamia Masjid Gilgit. Governor Mir Gazanfar Ali Khan, GBLA Speaker Fida Nashad, members of the assembly, political leaders, elders and religious scholars attended his funeral prayers. The body of Mohmmad Ali Sheikh was later taken to his native Gulmat valley of Nagar where he was laid to rest in presences of a large number of people.

The deceased was elected GBL A member on the ticket of Islami Tehreek from Nagar in June 2015.

Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman, Governor Mir Gazanfar Ali Khan, ministers, civil servants and political leaders in their separate statements termed his demise a big loss for the people of GilgitBaltistan.
