Juve snowed off, Roma blown away as Lazio go third

MILAN: Champions Juventus`s Serie A game was snowed off on Sunday as Lazio moved third with a 3-0 win over Sassuolo at the expense of AS Roma who were beaten 2-0 by AC Milan.

Juventus are provisionally a point behind leaders Napoli and had been looking to move top against Atalanta in Turin but for blizzard-like conditions which saw five centimetres of snow pile up before kick-of f.

Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic continued their goal-scoring sprees as Patrick Cutrone and Davide Calabria gave Milan their first win in the Stadio Olimpico in six years.

Roma who had been on a three-match Serie A winning streak-slipped tofifth behind Inter Milan who beat bottom side Benevento 2-0 on Saturday, with Milan just outside the European places on seventh Former European champions Milan sent a reminder totheir rivals that they are still a force to be reckoned with after a vintage performance at Roma.

Milan play Lazio in the Stadio Olympico in the Italian Cup semi-final on Wednesday before next weekend`s Milan derby against Inter.

SAVIC SHOW Milinkovic-Savic showed just why some of Europe`s top clubs are after him withtwo goals as Lazio strolled to a 3-0 win at Sassuolo.

The win will be a boost for Lazio ahead of a crucial period for the capital side ahead of the semi-final af ter which they host Juventus in Serie A and entertain Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League last 16.

The league`s leading scorer Immobile also netted a penalty.

Before the match against Sassuolo, Lazio`s sporting director Igli Tare had confirmed the club had rejected a 70 million euro ($86 million) bid for MilinkovicSavic, with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris St Germain among the clubs reportedly interested in the Serbia midfielder, who turns 23 on Tuesday.

The 22-year old fired Lazio ahead with a rasping shot from 25 metres and headed home the third after striker Immobile made it 2-0 with from the spot.

It was Immobile`s 23rdleague goal of the season with the spot kick awarded for handball after match of ficials consulted the video assistant referee (VAR) amid furious protests by the home side.

`Milinkovic is a really talented player,` Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi said af ter the victory.

`He`s still very young and has so much desire to improve himself, I think he has a greatfuture ahead of him.

R ELEGATION BATTLE SPA L boosted their hopes of Serie A survival with a vital 3-2 win in a relegation battle at Crotone.

The Ferrara-based side remained 18th, but moved to within a point of Crotone, who occupy the last position of safety.SPAL had lost their past three matches but took the lead in the 37th minute as Manuel Lazzari rolled the ball across from the right for Mirco Antenucci to fire into the top right corner.

Ante Budimir fired home a rebound shortly af ter halftime to level for Crotone but Lorenco Simic restored Spal`s advantage two minutes later with a looping header.

It appeared as if Paloschi had secured SPAL`s victory when he put his side 3-1 up on the hour but Budimir netted his second of the match to set up a nervy nnalfour minutes for the visitors.

In other matches, Hellas Verona gave themselves hope of avoiding the drop with a 2-1 win over Torino.

Verona moved to within two points of Crotone.

Elsewhere, Fiorentina beat Chievo Verona 1-0 and Matias Silvestre scored at both ends as his Sampdoria side beat Udinese 2-1.
