Chashma canal to be repaired within 40 days: minister

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Minister of State for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the repair of the damaged parts of Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) would be completed within 45 days.
In a statement issued here, he said that Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) prepared feasibility for remaining the flood-affected canal.
Mr Kundi, who is also the central information secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), said the tender for the third phase of the scheme would be issued within next two days.
He said that one tender would be of Rs160 million while two tenders would be of Rs80 million each.
He said that Wapda pledged to complete the scheme within 45 days.
He that Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would inaugurate the survey of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). `The people, who do not have BISP cards, should participate in the survey so that they can be provided with their right, he added.
DRIVE: Government Polytechnic Institute (GPI) for Women Principal Sara Khan planted a sapling at the institute the other day to kick off spring tree plantation campaign.
Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the tree plantation drive, she said that trees and colourful flowers were a priceless gift of nature. She advised students to participate in the campaign to ensure plantation of maximum number of saplings.
`It would help in reducing air pollution,` she added.
Ms Khan said that trees were friends of human beings as they provided clean environment to them.
She said that tree plantation campaigns were being organised all over the world to reduce the effects of climate change. She said that all people, especially the officials of forest department, should actively participate in the plantation campaign.
On the occasion, Ms Khan and coordinator of the institute Zafar Awan thanked Ms Ghazala of forest department for her support in the campaign.
The ceremony was also attended by staff and students in large numbers. Correspondent
