Security threat

2025-02-27
THE relations between the United States and India tend to become stable whenever China`s geopolitical potential challenges them. Apart from the US-India cooperation in information technology (IT) and education, their military collaboration and transfer of latest fighter jets has seen new peaks.

The F-35 is the most potent fighter jet in the US, which it has now offered to India.

This has put China and Pakistan at risk in terms of regional balance of power, threatening peace and security. British statesman and politician Lord Palmerston once said: `In international relations, there are no permanent friends or enemies, there are only permanent interests.` The US and India seem rather determined to focus on their interests.

To contain China, the US keeps enhancing its ties with India, while India looks far beyond the US interests to serve its own interests, though it has ended up isolating itself in the region. The bottom line is; the US that criticised Pakistan for testing long-range ballistic missiles by putting sanctions, has now offered Pakistan`s arch-rival its best combat tool.

They do things which suit them best.

Why does Pakistan not do the same? The US-India nexus is threatening Pakistan and will pose a serious menace if it remained unchecked. Narendra Modi`s recent visit to the US shows that New Dehli`s romance with Washington is going to last long. Therefore, Pakistan needs to revisit its foreign policy in its own internal and external interests to keep things going well while focussing on its economy and still remaining informed about the military advancements of its arch-rival.
