Snap checking reduces street crime

NAROWAL: Sialkot police have impounded 343 cars and motorcycles at various police stations during snap checking, while strict legal action and heavy fines have been imposed on 4,786 vehicles for violating traffic laws.
Officials say the initiative has significantly reduced crime.
According to the police, that the snapchecking drive was launched to curb roadside robberies and street crime. Initially, the operation was started in Sialkot and Daska, with teams comprising both traffic and regular police personnel.
Four snap-checking teams have performed well in Sialkot and Daska. During the drive, police have taken 707 motorcycles into custody for lacking number plates, which are often used in street crimes. Also, 118 motorcycles and cars have been seized for carrying bogus number plates, including green plates meant for government vehicles.
More than 1,500 motorcycles with nonstandard number plates have had their plates removed, and their owners fined. The police removed tinted glasses from 2,118 vehicles. In all, 335 motorcycles and eight cars were seized and locked in police stations as they were deemed suspicious. Correspondent
