Financial sustainability of varsities to be improved, says minister

MARDAN: Provincial minister for higher education Meena Khan Afridi has said the government is going to introduce a new system of ranking with the purpose to boost the financial sustainability and management of the universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He made this claim while addressing participants of two separate functions held in Women University Mardan and Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, here on Wednesday.

He was of the view that the said system of ranking would bring revolutionary changes in the higher education sector.

Mr Afridi said that the government was committed to taking steps on priority in order to promote higher education. He claimed the PTI government had improved the universities` affairs.

`We are going to set targets for each university, arranging workshops for this purpose,` he said.

The minister claimed that the KP government was going to provide Rs100 million to Women University Mardan in the current year so that its new building could be completed and the university could be able to launch classes in the next academic session.

Later, the provincial minister also inaugurate d a new building of a hostel in Abdul Wali Khan University. Prof Safia Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor Women University Mardan, and VC Abdul Wali Khan University Prof Zahir Shah thanked the government for providing funds to universities. Correspondent
