CHARSADDA: The 55-kanal property of old vegetable market, cleared of encroachers, was formally handed over to the administration of Islamia College Peshawar here on Wednesday.

The handing over of documents was performed in the presence of vice-chancellor of Islamia College Peshawar University and Peshawar commissioner. On this occasion, Vice-chancellor Prof Ali Mohammad announced opening of separate branches of Islamia Collegiate for boys and girls in Charsadda.

It merits a mention here that people of Charsadda had donated the land of old vegetable market at the time of establishment of Islamia College Peshawar to help the institute stand on its feet and become financially strong. All the income of the vegetable market had to go to Islamia College Peshawar. However, later the administration decided to establish a trade centre on the 55-kanal land of the old vegetable market to cope with the growingexpenses of the college. But land grabbers allegedly resisted the move of vacating the land.

However, the district and college administrations succeeded in vacating the land and shifting the old vegetable market to a new site outside Charsadda bazaar.

On Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Qaiser Khan handed over possession of 55-kanal land of old vegetable market to the ICP vice-chancellor in the presence of Peshawar Commissioner Riaz Mehsud.

Talking to journalists on the occasion, the commissioner and vice-chancellor said that the income from the old vegetable market to Islamia College was decreasing, so it was decided to build a trade centre there that would not only solve traffic problems of Charsadda bazaar but would also increase income of Islamia College.

The vice-chancellor on the occasion announced opening of separate branches of Islamia Collegiate for boys and girls on the land owned by Islamia College on Tarnab road in Charsadda.
