`Pakistan won`t be part of any proxy war`

2014-03-27
ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid says Pakistan will not become part of any proxy war and the government is following the policy of non-interference in internal affairs of other countries.

Talking to reporters after the launch of a Media Commission report here on Wednesday, he said Pakistan would neither interfere in any country`s internal matters nor allow any country to interfere in its internal affairs.

He said some elements were trying to defame Pakistan by spreading rumours.

The armed forces were responsible for protecting the integrity of the country and countering any foreign aggression, and they were doing their professional duty, he said.

`Neither any country has asked for deployment of Pakistan Army troops, nor we are sending them to any country,` he said, adding that the armed forces were performing their constitutional duties in the country.

Replying to a question about the cricket tournament being held in Bangladesh, he said sports should be free from politics and banning spectators from bringing flags of any other country would be unfortunate.

He said the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board was a good administrator and the team`s performance had improved under him.

About talks with Taliban, he said the government`s negotiating team was fully empowered in this regard.

The minister said the PML-N had a record of improving relations with the neighbouring countries.-APP
