CM rejects party lawyers demand for funds

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has rejected the demands for provision of funds to Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), a sister organisation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, for the welfare of lawyers` community, and made it clear that the government can give grants and funds to bar associations only, but will never allow the revival of wrong practice of benefiting the blue-eyed.
He said that the politics of distribution of plots, permits and funds among political workers was now story of the past and urged the party workers to support him in his government`s policy of judiclous use of funds. He urged ILF to activate lawyers of the province for early accomplishment of the party`s agenda of change and particularly for the provision of speedy and cheap justice to the poor.
The chief minister was talking to delegations of the ILF office-bearers from Nowshera and Takhtbai at the CM Secretariat here on Wednesday, which separately called on him under the leadership of Malik Ibrar Khan and MPA Iftikhar Mashwani, respectively, and briefed him regarding problems being faced by the lawyers.
The delegations assured complete cooperation to the government in the provision of cheap justice to people.
On this occasion, Nisar Safi, Kamal Khan, Said Mohammad, Irfan Khattak, Muqaddar Khan, Usman Mohmand, Zahid Khan, Salman and Abu Bakker advocates of Takhtbai Bar quit different political parties and joined ILE They expressed the resolve to offer any kind of sacrifice for promotion of the agenda of change and cause of the party.
The chief minister said that unlike past rulers his government was determined to eliminate corruption and restore the confidence of people so that they could get due rights without offering bribes. He claimed that now no patwari, policeman or government servant could receive bribe from anyone. He said that the PTI-led government had also abolished the politics of revenge and even did not touch recruitments made by the previous governments.
He referred to the legislation made by his government for empowerment of people at grassroots, eradication of corruption, guaranteeing transparency and provision of better services to people.
He said that the laws of Right to Information, Ehtesab Commission, new local government system, access to services and conflict of interest were among the major achievements of his government.
Mr Khattak urged the lawyers for extending beneficial suggestions to the government for further practical progress on these laws. He asked the ILF members to hold camps for provision of free legal services to the poor, destitute and deserving people in the courts. He assured the two delegations of solution of all their genuine problems.
