Wahab discusses cooperation with mayor of Shanghai

KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab discussed avenues of mutual cooperation and investment in a meeting with the Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng in China on Saturday.
According to a press release issued here, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities in key sectors including infrastructure development, wasteto-energy projects, energy and urban services in Karachi.
Mayor Wahab extended a warm invitation to Chinese investors to participate in the city`s ongoing development initiatives and highlighted the city`s potential as a hub for international collaboration. To further strengthen educational and cultural ties, he announced the offering of scholarships to Chinese students through the Karachi Metropolitan University programmes.
Additionally, Mr Wahab announced the development of a public space in Karachi dedicated to honoring the people of China and their great leader, Chairman Mao Zedong, the First Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party.
Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to fostering long-term cooperation between Karachi and Shanghaiand agreed to explore further opportunities for collaboration across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
Mayor Wahab was accompanied by a delegation comprising S. M.
Afzal Zaidi, municipal commissioner; Gulzar Abro, financial advisor, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Mehdi Maloof, senior director of culture and sports.
