CPSP, KMU pledge to strengthen medical education, training

PESHAWAR: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and Khyber Medical University have pledged to strengthen postgraduate medicaleducation andtraining.
The mutual commitment came during a visit to KMU by Senior Vice-President of CPSP, Karachi, and Vice-Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, Prof Khalid Masood Gondal on Friday.
Addressing the faculty atAlexander Fleming Hall, Dr Gondal emphasised the CPSP`s unwavering commitment to maintaining high standards in medical education and training across the country. He highlighted the various academic initiatives launched by CPSP, including a nationwide series of master-level degree workshops.
Prof Gondal shared that currently over 52,000 trainee doctors were being trained under CPSP across 88 disciplines. `Tofacilitate this training, 14 regional centres have been established across the country.
He stated that CPSP firmly believed in self-reliance and that Pakistani doctors were not only in high demand worldwide but were also recognised for their international standard of training. He added that CPSP-trained doctors were serving as medical ambassadors of Pakistan globally. `A CPSP centre is also being established in Kabul, which willfurther enhance the institution`s international re cognition.
Dr Gondal informed the audience that CPSP graduates were delivering world-class healthcare services in the UK, Ireland, the USA, Europe, Australia, and several Middle Eastern countries.
Earlier, KMU Vice-Chancellor ProfZiaulHaqwelcomedthe distinguished guest and gave him a tour of the under-construction KMU general hospital.
During a briefing, Prof Haqsaid that specialised departments in gastroenterology, breast cancer, blood cancer, diabetes, and rehabilitation were being established at the hospital.
`These facilities will not only provide quality medical services to patients from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighbouring Afghanistan but will also offer international-standard training opportunities for young postgraduate trainee doctors. Bureau Report
