Transport owners not reducing fares warned of action

BAHAWALPUR: Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa has warned the private transporters of strict legal action if they failed to abide by the government`s orders to reduce the fares on inter-city routes originating from Bahawalpur.
The DC directed Regional District Transport Authority (RDTA) head Ms Arooj Fatimah, while chairing a meeting of private transport owners, to ensure a decrease inthe fares on inter-city routes following the recent cut in the diesel prices in the country by the government .
The DC issued the orders after complaints that the transporters had not decreasedfares on the inter-city routes despite reduced diesel prices and passengers were continuously being flee ced.
Some incidents of quarrels between the conductors of vans, coaches and buses and passengers have also been reported over the fare issue.
RPO ORDER: Regional Police officer (RPO) Rai BabarSaeed has directed the Kotwali police station in charge to delete section 7 of the AntiTerrorism Act (ATA) included in the FIR registered against the leaders of Bahawalpur National Ittehad (BNI), including its chief Ms Asia Kamal and her husband retired Prof Dr Midhat Kamal.
The FIR was registered under various charges, including terrorism, against the two BNI leaders and 19 unidentified `PTI activists` for demonstrating in front of the house of Punjab Governor Baligh-urRehman and blocking a road,demanding creation of `Bahawalpur Suba`, a new province.
In her application to the RPO, Ms Kamal said her organisation had nothing to do with the PTI, and no worker of the party was present in the demonstration.
She said and the BNI only demanded creation of new province.
The suspects had sought interim bail before arrest from a court after registration of the FIR.
Accepting Ms Asia`s application, the RPO directed the Kotwali SHO to remove section7 of the ATA from the FIR registered against them.
ARRESTED: The Kotwali police claimed to have arrested a man for for preparing and selling kites and recovered heavy consignment of hundreds of kites, metal strings and its rings from his possession.
The police said the suspect, Atif Mohajir, was arrested with his stock of kites that was confiscated.
Besides, Civil Lines police claimed to have arrested seven persons under Arms Act and recovered illegal weapons and narcotics from their possession.
