Benefits of simulation-based education highlighted in healthcare

KARACHI: Speakers at a two-day international conference `SIMPACT 204` highlighted the wide-ranging benefits of simulation-based education that has revolutionised healthcare landscape.
The conference was organised by the Aga Khan University Centre for Innovation inMedical Education (CIME).
With a hybrid format blending in-person events at the CIME in Karachi and Nairobi with virtual participation options, the conference brought together a diverse array of simulation professionals, including doctors, nurses, educators, researchers, engineers, students and industry leaders from around the world.
`This conference has marked a significantmilestone for our region, and we were excited to explore new horizons and drive innovation that will transform the future of healthcare training and practice,` said Dr Michael Moneypenny, regional director of the CIME East Africa.
The event commenced with hands-on workshops covering specialties such as inter-professional simulation, laparoscopic skills, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and cardiol-ogy management of dermatological disorders in primary care.
In his speech at the inaugural session, Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, president and vicechancellor of the Aga Khan University, said the conference embodied the essence of simulation-based education, offering benefits such as enhanced patient safety, skill acquisition, team training, personalised learning, and fostering research and innovation.
