BAJAUR: Two youth were shot dead by unknown assailants in Kohi area of Salarzai tehsil here the other day.

Police and Rescue 1122 said on Monday that the youth were sitting near their homes after offering evening prayers at a local mosque when the assailants targeted them.

Riaz Ahmed Khan, media coordinator of Rescue 1122 Khar station, told Dawn that the deceased, identified as Farmanullah, 23, and Suliman, 24, sustained critical injuries in the shooting and were promptly transported to District Headquarters Hospital.

However, the official said both of them succumbed to their injuries before receiving any treatment.

Locals said that soon after the incident, members of Salarzai Qaumi Lashkar launched an action to track down the assailants, who fled after the double murder.

No one claimed responsibility for the killings.

Meanwhile, district police officer Waqas Rafique told reporters that an investigation into the incident had been launched to determine the motive and identify of those involved in it.
