By Zulfiqar Memon 2025-05-27
NAWABSHAH: The District and Sessions Judge of Naushahro Feroze, Nadeem Badar Qazi, has issued a show-cause notice to SSP Bashir Ahmed Brohi for misinter preting and violating a court order regarding burial of Moro violence victim Irfan Leghari.

The notice, issued on Monday, noted that SSP Brohi was categorically ordered to hand over Irfan Leghari`s body to his heirs or an NGO, but the police officer allegedly disobeyed the order and misled the public by claiming that the court had declared the body `unclaimed`.

The notice informed the SSP that his actions were a clear violation of court`s order.

Neither the body was declared heirless by court nor were police allowed to bury it without consent of his legal heirs, the notice mentioned.

There was no record produced in court that the legal heirs of Irfan Leghari had refusedto accept his body. It was observed that the SSP deliberately and willfully did not comply with the court order.

The SSP was required to submit a written response and appear in court on May 29, 2025 to explain his actions.

Failure to comply with the order might result in legal action under relevant laws, including Sections 166, 174 and 176 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Police Order 2002, the SSP was informed.

STP demands exhumation Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has demanded exhumation of Irfan Leghari`s body and the funeral proceedings by his heirs.

In his video message from US, he regretted that the body was desecrated by police. He said that in order to put an end to such humiliating treatment to bodies, masses should gather at the grave of Irfan Leghari on May 28, exhume his body and rebury it in his ancestral graveyard to express solidarity with his heirs.
