RAWALPINDI: More rain and gusty winds are expected in upper and central parts of the country from May 27 (today) with Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) warning the district administrations to take precautionary measures.

In a weather advisory, the Met Office predicted windstorm/rain-thunder during the week with occasional gaps. It said moist currents were continuously penetrating into the upper and central parts of the country and a westerly wavewas also likely to enter the upper areas on May 27.

Under the influence of this weather system, windstorm/ rain-thunder (with isolated heavy falls/hailstorm) are expected in Kashmir, GilgitBaltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad,Haripur,Peshawar,Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak and Waziristan from May 27 (evening/night) to May 31 with occasional gaps.

Windstorm with light to moderate rain-thunder is also excepted in Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, D.G.

Khan,Rajanpur,Multan,Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, and D.I. Khan on May 27 (evening/night) to May 30 with occasional gaps.

The windstorm/dust-thunderstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels.Farmers were advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions. It urged people, travelers and tourists to take precautionary measures during the weather activity.

NDMA issues alert Meanwhile, the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the NDMA issued an impact-based weather alert.

It said strong western weather systems were expected to impact various parts of Pakistan from May 27 to June 1, bringing rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and potential hailstorms.Islamabad is expected to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

In Sindh, hot and dry conditions will prevail with no significant rainfall forecast from May 27 to May 29. NDMA urged all provincial and district authorities to ensure emergency preparedness, remain vigilant and coordinate with local response units for timely action.

The authority advised public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and floodprone areas, secure weak structures, trees, power lines and solar panels, park vehicles in secure and coveredlocation.
