KHUZDAR: Two police personnel and a proclaimed offender were killed in an armed encounter in Surab area of Kalat district on Sunday.

District Police Officer of Kalat Lal Jan Baloch said that a police team raided a place in Kalghali area of Surab tehsil on a tip-off about the presence of proclaimed offender Wahabullah.

He said that when police personnel were trying to enter the hideout of Wahabullah he opened fire on them, killing assistant sub-inspector Sikandar Khan on the spot. A police driver also received bullet injuries. He was rushed tothe hospital, but died before reaching there.

Before Wahabullah was killed by the firing of the police personnel, an exchange of fire between them continued for about three hours.

The Kalat DPO told Dawn that Wahabullah was allegedly involved in the attack on the convoy of Kharan`s DPO Mohammad Anwar Badini last year in which he was seriously injured.

Another police of ficial said Wahabullah was also involved in cases of theft, robbery, kidnapping for ransom and some other heinous crimes.

Bodies of the slain police personnel were handed over to their relatives after legal formalities.
