Time is up for most dangerous buildings

LAHORE: Up to 155, of the 451, dilapidated buildings in Lahore have been declared the most dangerous and are likely to be demolished. Similarly, 289 such buildings in Sheikhpura and Nankana Sahib districts will also be demolished by town municipal administrations (TMAs).

The participants of a meeting at the divisional headquarters heard this on Tuesday, which was also attended by Ammara Khan and Saira Umar, both district coordination officers (DCOs) of Kasur and Nankana, and representatives of the City District Government of Lahore, Sheikhupura, the Walled City of Lahore Authority, the Lahore Development Authority (LODA), the UrbanUnit and district officers of buildings.

The participants learned that 291 building would be repaired in Lahore, 78 Sheikhupura and 71 in Nankana Sahib. In Kasur, the number of dilapidated buildings is 296, of them19 have been declared the most dangerous and will be demolished. The Walled City has 143 such buildings, of them 84 will be demolished and the remaining 54 repaired. There are 10 such buildings in the LDA controlled area and these can be repaired.

The additional commissioner asked the DCOs to submit the detail of litigation, if any, involving the dangerous buildings to the Lahore commissioner office.
