LAHORE: An accountability court on Friday extended physical remand of five co-suspects involved in alleged corruption committed by Punjab Sports Board`s former director general Usman Anwar in the Punjab Youth Festivals organised by the PML-N government.

Earlier, the NAB presented suspects, including Ahsanul Haq, Muhammad Imran, Tayyab Waseem, Muhammad Asif and Khalid Mahmood, before the court.

A prosecutor requested the court to extend the remand of the suspects for another 15 days as investigation was still in progress.

However, the court extended the remand for 10 days and directed the NAB to produce the suspects again on Aug 5.

The NAB accused the Sports Board`s former DG and others of awarding illegal contracts of the youth festivals held in 2011 and 2012. It said the contracts were given to unregistered and blue-eyed companies in violation of procurement rules.

It claimed that initially the calculated loss to national exchequer caused by the suspects was Rs139 million.

However, the investigation revealed that the actual loss was Rs200 million.
