Saving roads

2023-07-27
A SEWERAGE line across Jinnah Road in Islamabad`s Bani Gala area was laid recently, but only on one side of the road while completely ignoring the houses on the other side, which is a perfect example of ill-planning.

Resultantly, those living on the other side of the road started digging the road on their own to connect their houses with the main sewerage line. The road stands damaged at every 20 or so metres. The road, which was recently constructed after a long struggle and protests by the residents, is today uneven with potholes and even craters.

The law requires everyone to take due permission before digging any public road, and then to rebuild the road to the pre-digging standard. Owing to the illogical planning and execution of the authorities, people had to dig up the road.

Unfortunately, the people decided to do it on their own without any permission.

They just go about their business and then fill up the craters with mud afterwards. The road is in a very poor condition and is a cause of great inconvenience to the residents.Public roads are built with public money, and, therefore, require great surveillance by public officials. The authorities concerned should be vigilant, implement the relevant rules/ laws in letter and in spirit, and take necessary action against the lawbreakers as soon as possible.
