CHINIOT: Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has said that a comprehensive plan for permanent flood control will be prepared in the light of the recommendations of the Flood Commission. He was addressing a large gathering of citizens of Chiniot at the helipad on his arrival from Lahore by helicopter to have an aerial view of the floodaffected areas. ... The Prime Minister said the Flood Commission, which was set up in 1973 to suggest methods to check floods, had submitted its report to the Government, which was already under consideration. ...
Mr Bhutto said the floods were a common phenomenon in the riverine countries ... and wherever there were floods, they brought disaster also. However, he said, with the advancement of science and technology, the Governments in various countries had been endeavouring hard to check floods and utilise flood waters... . ..
Mr Bhutto said the current floods had caused immense damage to the crops, particularly the cotton crop. However, he said he hoped that af ter the flood water withdrew leaving big layers of silt on the surface and considerable moisture, we would look forward to a successful crop in the rabi season.
