LAHORE: A recovery official of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) was allegedly assaulted by defaulters and people involved in power theft in Allahabad area of Kasur district.

According to a Lesco spokesperson, the incident occurred when recovery in-charge and lineman Muhammad Afzal was returning home after performing his duties in the Allahabad sub-division. The suspects allegedly intercepted him on the way and subjected him to violence.

The spokesperson said that Lesco admin took immediate notice of the incident and initiated legal proceedings against those involved.

Lesco CEO Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt said action against electricity defaulters and power theft would continue across the company`s jurisdiction without discrimination and in accordance with the law. He said violence against or pressure on Lesco employees would not be tolerated and assured that the safety of officers and workers performing their duties in the field would be ensured.

He also visited the Kanganpur sub-division and met the injured lineman on Saturday. The CEO inquired after the health of the lineman.
