DSP given task to recover British national

By Our Staff Correspondent 2014-10-27
FAISALABAD: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) has been tasked with recovering a British national boy kidnapped almost two months ago.

However, written orders have not been issued even after four days of assigning the task to Factory Area DSP Malik Khalid.

Earlier, the D Type Colony station house of ficer (SHO) was looking after the matter for two months. But he was replaced by City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajil< after Iftikhar Ahmed, the father of kidnapped Shehryar, had expressed dissatisfaction over his working.

Talking to Dawn, Ahmed said the investigation of ficer was passing on fabricated information to police officials, including that his family was involved in the kidnapping, the `drama` was being staged only to get a visa, his wife did not want to send Shehryar abroad and that he had two wives.

He further said the officer had been doing all this to save the suspect Shehroz, who had taken Shehryar with him on Aug 21 to show him around. He said the family of Shehroz had a criminal record and were close to the investigation officer. He said contrary to claims, police did not use third degree torture on Shehroz to get information on whereabouts of Shehryar. He had been detained in the police station for a few days as `a guest` Ahmed said he had submitted an application on Thursday to replace the investigation officer, however no written order had been issued yet. An officer requesting anonymity said the suspect had been grilled and mobile phone data of his entire family obtained. Police did not find anything to hold the family responsible, he added. He said they had been working on different angles of the case to trace the boy and role of the family could not be ignored.

Talking to Dawn, DSP Khalid said he had been asked on Saturday to investigate the issue, but no written orders had been issued so far. He said work on the case would be started actively in consultation with senior superintendent of police (investigation).
