Tareen moves LHC against Ayaz

2016-10-27
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen has moved the Lahore High Court against the National Assembly speaker for dismissing his party`s reference seeking disqualification of the prime minister.

Mr Tareen contends in his petition that Panama leaks revealed massive corruption allegedly committed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.

He says the Sharif family, as per the leaks, is involved in money laundering. The petitioner claims that foreign media calls Nawaz Sharif the `most corrupt` prime minster of Pakistan. He states that a reference was moved to the National Assembly speaker against the PM but he dismissed it plainly instead of referring it to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He pleads that the speaker has no power to dismiss the reference.

The PTl leader asks the court to set aside the decision of the speaker and order him to forward the reference filed by his party to the ECP.

The high court is already seized with an identical petition filed by a member of Justice and Democratic Party headed by former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

Notices have been issued by the court in this petition.-Staff Reporter
