HARIPUR: Most of the vice-chancellors of public sectoruniversitiesinHazara division continue to defy law by not removing teaching faculties from administrative posts, according to sources.
They said that violation of legal provisions was affecting teaching responsibilities of the faculty members.
Referring to KP Universities Act (Amendment 2016), they said that there was a proper procedure laid down in the Act about filling of dif ferent administrative positions in the public sector universities.
Sources said that the faculty members including lecturers, assistant professors and associate professors were running administrative business at University of Haripur, Abbottabad University of Science and Technology and Hazara University Mansehra, despite repeated directives by Higher Education Commission.
Sources said that HED repeatedly asked the vicechancellors of all public sector universities to ensure implementation of KP Universities Act by filling the administrative posts as per procedures laid down in the law.
Mushtaq Ghani, adviser to chief minister on higher education, had even warned action against those vicechancellors, who were not separating teaching faculty from the administrative cadre.
Sources said that those faculty members, who were close to vice-chancellors, were given administrative responsibilities to make them entitled to the addi-tional 20 per cent pay of their basic salary at the cost of studies of students.
Sources said that in Haripur University the posts of registrar, director planning and development, additional director ASRB, project director, additional director QEC, deputy provost, deputy controller examinations, deputy treasurer, director ORIC and manager ORIC while in AUST the posts of registrar, ORIC, QEC, deputy registrar meetings, additional registrar academics, provost, director admissions, head of legal cell, chief proctor, assistant treasurer and assistant registrar establishment were occupie d by teachers.
However the administration of Hazara University has brought about changes in the recent past by removing teachers from the administrative posts and leaving only few teachers to hold additional charge of administrative responsibilities.
University of Haripur Vice-chancellor Dr Abid Farid was not available for comment, however, Registrar Dr Zahoor Ahmed confirmed that teachers were working on administrative posts as the university didn`t have its own statutes and followed the statute of University of Peshawar.
`In the absence of permanent senior faculty members, we have to give additional charge to senior teaching faculty,` he said adding that UoH was facing financial constraints so running administrative business with the support of teaching faculty was quite economical.
AUST Vice-chancellor Dr Iftikhar Ahmed could also not be contacted for comments as he was out of the town.
However, a senior faculty member of the university confirmed the report that teachers were working on administrative posts but they were not paid additional mount.
