Security plan devised for Milad procession

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have decided to chalk out an elaborate security plan for the main procession of Eid Miladun Nabi on Rabiul Awwal 12 (Oct 30) and to ensure strict patrolling for religious gatherings in the city.

Around 1,000 personnel, including teams from the Anti-Terrorism Force and the Counter-Terrorism Force, will perform security duties and will be assisted by special teams of Rangers, CID and Special Branch.

The decision for comprehensive security arrangements was made at a meeting presided over by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan.

The IGP directed DIG (operations) Waqaruddin Syed to ensure the security arrangements. He asked for monitoring and surveillance of the procession through drone and CCTV cameras.

Contingents of police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies will perform patrolling and security duties and the main procession starting from G-7 will be cordoned off through heavy deployment.

The procession will start from G-7 (Sitara Market) and culminate near the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Mehmud at Aabpara market.Close liaison will be maintained with organisers of the procession and other gatherings.

Cooperation of the organisers will be ensured with the police and law enforcing officials. Walk-through gates will be installed at all the entry points of the procession and metal detectors will be used for checking of the participants.

Alternative routes will be specified for traffic during the procession and traffic policemen would also perform duties. ITP FM Radio 92.4 would disseminate messages to update the citizens about traffic situation.

Meanwhile, the Banigala police busted two criminals` gangs, comprising 10 members, and recovered cash, mobile phones, valuables and weapons from them, a spokesman said.
