Early completion of Torghar road demanded

MANSEHRA: The residents on Wednesday demanded an early construction of the Morta-Gaway Road in Torghar dis-trict for their development.

`This road project, which was approved by the district development advisory committee and got Rs400 million from the provincial government, should be completed without delay,` member of Morta Village Council Mohammad Khan Akazai told reporters.

The councillor said the proposed road would link remote areas with district headquarters Judbah.

`We [district] don`t have infrastructure, especially roads. Early completion of projects will improve standard of living,` he said.

Mr Akazai asked contractors to meet project deadlines.

KILLED: An incident of honour killing was reported in Khatai area of Oghi tehsil here as a resident killed his sister-in-law and a man on Tuesday night.

Oghi deputy superintendent of police Javed Khan told reporters that the man killed by Taj Mohammad was allegedly the paramour of the slain woman.

He said an investigation had been launched to ascertain circumstances, which led to the killings.

Meanwhile, the police arrested a man and his friend for killing a woman in Garhi Habibullah area.

Mohammad Irfan of Havalian area in Abbottabad and his friend were taken into custody after a police investigation.

COMPLAINTS: The residents of Balakot tehsil on Wednesday rejected open kutcheris organised by the district administration insisting the events didn`t address their issues.

Qari Riaz told an open kutcheri that he had formally requested the assistant commissioner three months ago to check artificial price hike, but to no avail.

Mian Ashraf complained about garbage heaps in the city and its outskirts andsaid repeated requests to the TMA for their elimination fell on deaf ears.

He also resented the TMA`s failure to crack down on encroachments.

Another resident complained that transportersincreased fares after the government hiked oil prices but the commuters didn`t benefit from the slashing of petroleum rates.

Balakot assistant commissioner Basharat Bibi, who was present along with relevant officials, left 20 minutes after the event began.
