NDMA clarification

THE federal government committed Rs500m for the rehabilitation of the infrastructure damaged during floods in 2010. The cash compensation for death, injury and damaged houses was announced by provincial governments and was required to be paid by them. The compensation for deaths and injuries was paid by the district administration while compensation for houses was deferred by the district administration owing to the third partyverincation.

The prime minister was informed during the briefing on Oct 29 about the nonpayment of compensation. The provincial authorities were asked about it, and they said the matter was resolved. The NDMA on itspartsaid thatthe grantby thefederal government for infrastructure development had already been released by the finance division to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It was purely a provincial matter that Dr Faizi had though to be the responsibility of the NDMA. As for the NDMA`s response and contributions to the floods and the earthquake of Oct 26, the writer may like to visit the NDMA`s website to educate himself about the NDMA`s contribution.

Furthermore, the NDMA Act 2010 may also be studied to ascertain the function matrix of the National Disaster Management System. The NDMA remains committed to the service of the people of Pakistan.
