PFA inspection finds fast food outlet in poor hygiene

RAHIM YAR KHAN: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a f ast food outlet for poor hygiene conditions and violation of food laws here late on Sunday.

PFA spokesperson for south Punjab Yasir Arfat told Dawn PFA Director General retired Capt Muhammad Usman raided f ast food outlet near Shaikh Khalif a Public School in Ittehad Garden and found unsatisfactory cleanliness on the premises. There was no oil change record while cooking oil was being converted into rancid form. Rancid oil contains three radicals that might increase risk of developing diseases suchascancer orheartdisease.

The fast food outlet had dysfunctional water filtration plant while spices in the kitchen were also substandard.

Sources said some customers complained to the PFA. This restaurant was inaugurated on Nov 9 this year.

When this correspondent visited the eatery on Monday, security guards said the restaurant was closed due to out-oforder machines.

PFA officials also sealed Umair Food Products, Malik Farman Grinding Unit, Pakeeza Foods and Abdul Hameed Abid Salt Unit on Sunday and Monday for violation of food rules.
