Seventy-five years ago Cease-fire conditions

2023-12-27
BATAVIA: South-East Asian radio stations today [Dec 26] broadcast conditions under which the Indonesian Republican Government would carry out the United Nations Security Council`s cease-fire order and resume talks with the Dutch on the Indonesian dispute, according to Aneta, the Netherlands East Indies news agency.

Broadcasting for the `Republican Emergency Government`, Dr Amir Sharifuddin, Republic Minister of Economics, was quoted as demanding the immediate release of Dr Soekarno, President of the Indonesian Republic, and other Republican leaders held by the Dutch, and the withdrawal of Dutch troops to positions they occupied before the present `police action`.

Dr Sharifuddin also demanded de facto and de jure recognition of Republican sovereignty over Java, Sumatra and Madura and the withdrawal of Dutch troops as soon as possible after the formation of a sovereign Indonesian Government. A Dutch spokesman said the Netherlands authorities knew nothing of the `Republican Emergency Government`. The conditions laid down `could naturally not form the subject of discussions`, he added.
