CHARSADDA: A large number of lady health workers (LHWs) organised a demonstration outside the office of district health officer here on Tuesday against non-payment of their salaries for the last six months.
Addressing the protesters, Nilofar Begum, Shabina Razia and others said that more than 300 lady health workers worked in Charsadda under the integrated health project but they had not received any salary during the past six months.
They said that LHWs would boycott future vaccination drives and polio campaigns if their salaries were not released forthwith. They said that they would extend the protest to other districts of the province if the authorities concerned failed to release salaries to them.
Meanwhile, police arrested a suspect involved in extortion and recovered a mobile phone and SIM used in the crime from his possession.
DSP Sardheri Kausar Khan and SHO Sardheri Masood Khan said that a schoolteacher, Salahuddin, had filed a report with police that an unidentified man was making threatening calls to him to demand money from him. Police filed a case against the arrested man and started investigation.
