First police command and control centre opens in Khyber

KHYBER: Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan inaugurated on Tuesday the first command and control centre at Police Training Center Shahkas in Khyber tribal district.

He was accompanied by CCPO Sayed Ashfaq Anwar, who also performed the opening of a new police station in Bara alongside inaugurating women-specific separate complaint desk in the same new building with female staff.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of police command and control centre, the IGP said that such facilities would be provided to other tribal districts. He also appreciated the posting of female staff at thewomen-specific complaint desk in Bara police station. He said that the desk would help in facilitating local aggrieved women to register their complaints in a secure and free atmosphere without being influenced by male members of their families or tribal society.

Mr Khan said that equipping police with modern equipment was the top priority of his department as it would improve their performance.

Briefing the IGP during the inauguration of the police command and control centre, DPO Salim Abbas Kulachi said that installation of 182 close-circuit security cameras was completed at a number of sensitive locations and market places with round the clock surveillance of those places through a coordinated system at the newly-establishedcommand and control centre.

He said that CCTV cameras were installed at those places in the initial phase where they were equipped with internet facility while the police stations, DPO office, police lines and traffic headquarters were also connected with the command and control centre.

He said that the centre would help in controlling crimes with effective monitoring of criminals and regulating traffic on PeshawarTorkham Highway and link roads.

Meanwhile, Kamran Afridi was elected president and JahanzebKhan general secretary of Bara Press Club.

The members of press club voted in favour of Iqbal Afridi for the post of vice president while Qazi Rauf was elected finance secretary. Some 34 members of the press club exercised their right to vote.
